Erik Baron :
After some years of guitar, Erik Baron starts playing fretless bass attracted from sonority but also from the beauty of this strange and rare instrument. The intensive listening of Sarangi played by Indian musician Pandit ram Narayan brings him to develop a melodic play with the bow on the bass firstly named bowbass and then bassArco. Lute maker Jacobacci conceives for him his first special bassArco. The meeting with Jean-Paul Nogues (Musique en Chantier, Delta Ensemble) is crucial for his musician's life choice. He creates the duo Orient-Express with Pascale Jakubowski. They release the cassette "Cocktail Molotov 1985" (Musique en Chantier) and they contribute to many international compilations on the labels ADN, P.E.A.C.E, SJ Organisation. A cassette "Inedits" (Musique en Chantier) follows in 1986. In 1981 he records with Pseu an album that will be released 20 years later by Musea. in 1983 with other musicians he starts CIAM , one of the first independent music schools in France. He joins Baron Dupoil, energetic blues-rock trio directed by guitarist and singer Philippe Dupau, discovers the Afro Beat of the groups Kanda and N’Gondélé and plays as second soloist bass player in the group Incroyable Jungle Beat. He starts his interest about informatics in music with the first Systems (Atari, Pro 24, Sampler and DX7), composing his first electronic pieces. Even if at first not very attracted from jazz music, Erik Baron takes part in different projects of concerts and albums with Denis Gouzil, Serge Balsamo, Yves Carbonne, Charles Tyler, Hal Singer, Santos Chillemi, Fawzy Al-Aiedy, Noël Ackchote, jac Berrocal. By playing jazz he improves his electric bass playing technique and his capacity of listening and improvising. The show Tout l’or du Ciel based on Afghanistan starts his longtime collaboration with actor and theatre director Henri Bonithon. Erik Baron takes the pseudonym of Kader Mostar Ali and plays middle-eastern instruments like Rûbab, Santur, Saz and the Harmonium of Pakistan. He realizes a device for bass|analogic effects performing his bassSolo ‘Eden’ at the festival "Les états généreux du Jazz" [1998]. He joins la Casa, a group of contemporary music and improvisation with François Rossé, Etienne Rolin, Gyorgy Kurtag, Pascal Lefeuvre and John Kenny. The album "Noise D’Fense" is released by Alba Musica [1997]. Erik Baron arranges Tierkreis of Stockhausen for an atypical duo Bass/Hurdy Gurdy of Pascal Lefeuvre Alba Musica [1995]. He creates the music of the first film by Philippe Fernandez ‘La loi de l’univers’ [1995]. He discovers the Occitan culture through the singer Joan-Luc Madièr with whom he prepares the show Sonnailles involving the percussionist Jean-Marie Nadaud. The lute maker Christian Noguera designes a new more modern and ergonomic bassArco for him. He composes music for dancers like Isabelle Lassere, Mari Siles, Katie Duck, Patricia Kwipers and Alain Gonotey.Erik Baron creates d-zAkord, an ensemble of electric guitars and basses performing many works and recording 3 albums with a mythical version of Terry Riley's "in C" and Jannick Top's De Futura[Hiroshima].
In order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of d-zAkord he conceives the living sound installation Drone[s]Scape/Mue for 12 guitarists and composes his first opera Cordeyades integrating all his influences : Rock, Noise, Ambient, Minimalism, Theatre, Dance Buto, Texts and direction … Performances at Tritonales festival(2007 & 2008), festival des Hauts de festival with Magma [2007]. His meeting with composer and bass player Kasper Toeplitz opens to him the path of live informatics with soft maxMSP. the musical radicality of this composer has a big impact on him. Hi joins Toeplitz's group for the performances : LFO [Festival d’Huddersfield, UK], Von morgens bis mitternachts [auditorium du Louvre, Paris], concerts at Merz festival, Berlin, festival ’30:30′, Bordeaux.
He also joins Art Zoyd for the multimedia show ‘Champs de larmes’ and takes part to the recordings of the albums "Pure Noise" [2009] and "Eyecatcher" [2011]. He revises sephardic chants as a duo with mezzo-soprano Nadine Gabard. The album "Noches Buenas" is released on label Ethnéa. Touring France from 2007 to 2012. He plays santùr and bass/ordi (bass/computer) for the cine-show Carnet(s) de Chine. Touring France with the choregraphic show Asian trip, he evolves his Indian inspired techniques of bassArco accompaining the flamenco dancer Manuella Papino [Glob Théâtre 2002]. He joins again African music playing in the group Peul Mussa Molo where he plays bass but also N’Goni and Gembri. With his new instrument Bass|Ordi he composes for reading-concerts with Béatrice Dumont, Frédérique Bruyas, François Mauget, Jean-Luc Terrade. He continues his collaboration with Cie Apsaras Théâtre with the shows Gilgamesh, Les routes de l’Exil, Les dits de la Jarre, Un Revenant. Shows in France including festival d’Avignon. In 2006 he introduces his first Audio-Theatre Toile de Cordes together with Cie Intérieur nuit.
